“Police departments and anti-drug advocates are increasingly warning parents that an unsecured medicine cabinet can be as dangerous to teenagers as an unlocked liquor cabinet. National statistics say prescription drug abuse is a threat that has remained strong in recent years, after taking off in the 1990s and early parts of the 2000s.
Local police departments — especially in the suburbs — say they’ve seen more teenagers lately become addicted to painkillers, depressants, and stimulants prescribed to someone else. ”
